Engine

Its linear torque curve is focused in The new engine's performance is delivered where it's most useful and most enjoyable. Also borrowed from the CRF range and the RC211V MotoGP bike is the sealed crankcase system that reduces the pumping loss created through piston movement, marking the first time this system has been used on a street motorcycle. It's the same technology used in Honda's potent CRF motocross bikes.
Lightweight and compact Unicam valve train allows for significantly shorter and smaller cylinder heads with no loss in efficiency. And because the powerplant now has perfect primary balance, the need for a balance shaft is eliminated, which allows for a more compact engine and also yields a weight savings of nearly 1.4 kg (3 lb) . The engine also incorporates a special high-strength Symmetrically Coupled Phase-shift Crankshaft that features a 28-degree crankpin offset that works in concert with the 76-degree V angle to essentially negate primary engine vibration for smooth running. It also improves mass centralization, thereby contributing to the bike's balanced feel and ease of control. This layout allows for a slim, compact "waist" that fits comfortably between the rider's legs.
Unique cylinder layout locates the rear cylinders side by side but close together, and the front cylinders more widely spaced. By combining many of Honda's most advanced technologies, engineers managed to create a remarkably compact engine that's both smaller and lighter than the V-4 engine in the VFR800A. Light and compact 1,237 cc liquid-cooled 76-degree V-4 engine pumps out amazing levels of power with a distinctive feel and sound.

Suspension
Honda's Combined Braking System creates the optimal balance of front and rear braking forces, while the compact and lightweight Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) lets you brake with confidence on even difficult surfaces. Powerful new six-piston calipers for the front and a two-piston caliper at the rear act on large full-floating discs (320 mm front; 276 mm rear). The VFR1200FA is equipped with a sophisticated braking system that's ideal for all-round sportbike use. At the front the VFR1200FA boasts a stout, sport-oriented 43 mm inverted cartridge fork with spring preload adjustability and 120 mm (4.7 inches) of travel.
Honda Pro-Arm single-side swingarm with single gas-charged shock features a handy remote spring-preload adjuster, rebound damping adjustability, and 130 mm (5.1 inches) of travel. The heat generated by the engine is also channelled away to keep hot air away from the rider. Plus, by channelling air through smaller apertures before it reaches the radiators and thereby increasing its velocity, engine cooling is optimized and the hot, exhausted air is carried quickly away from the rider and passenger for a cooler, more comfortable ride. Air entering between the layers and through two oval-shaped spaces in the front of the fairing is channelled in exactly the directions needed to enhance the bike's stability at higher speeds. The fairing incorporates two layers. The patented layered fairing design creates a uniquely beautiful shape and, at the same time, optimal airflow and heat management.

Camshafts are made of lightweight chrome-moly steel, and light, magnesium engine covers all add up to big weight savings, along with transmission, oil pump and starter gears carefully engineered for The intake resonator box and supports for the instrument panel and mirrors are unitized with the enlarged —to optimize intake volume — Ram Air duct, contributing to weight savings and improving rigidity. The Ninja ZX-6R’s lean physique is fundamental to its light handling, with every component on the bike carefully scrutinized for minimal weight. An exhaust layout with a short side muffler keeps the weight low, and an exhaust pre-chamber further contributes to the ZX-6R’s mass centralization. To optimize front-rear rigidity balance, frame stiffness around the swingarm pivot and the rear engine mounts is carefully tuned, with the compact engine rotated forward around the output shaft for a steep cylinder bank angle and optimal center of gravity.

With a fine-tuned chassis including a class-exclusive Big Piston Fork and fully adjustable shock out back, razor-sharp handling sets the ZX-6R apart. With an engine the critics agree feels bigger than 599cc, and a chassis that out handles all others, the ZX-6R returns as the bike to beat in 2010. Hats off to the Kawasaki Ninja ZX™-6R then, winner of 600cc comparison tests in just about every publication and website of note on the planet. To stand out in this crowd, a motorcycle needs to do everything better than well — it needs to kick serious tail in every department. When it comes to performance, no class is more competitive than middleweight sportbikes.

Features
The "A" mode lets the rider enjoy sportier engine response in the low- The standard map is designed for optimum overall performance. " The R1 features Yamaha D-MODE (or drive mode) with rider-selectable throttle control maps to program YCC-T performance characteristics for riding conditions. The fuel injection system provides optimum air/fuel mixtures for maximum power and smooth throttle response. YCC-I is Yamaha Chip Controlled Intake which is a variable intake system that broadens the spread of power. " This R1 keeps all the technological superiorities developed for its predecessor: YCC-T (Yamaha Chip Controlled Throttle) is MotoGP inspired fly-by-wire technology used to deliver instant throttle response. This breakthrough technology on the YZF-R1 represents a paradigm shift in both technology and performance. It's a feeling that's simply unmatched, like having two engines in one: the low-rpm torquey feel of a twin with the raw, high rpm power of an inline four. That means smooth roll-on delivery out of the corners, with outstanding tractability, followed by very strong high rpm power. This uneven order does an amazing thing… it actually lets power build more smoothly. Crossplane technology, first pioneered in MotoGP racing with the M1, puts each piston 90° from the next, with an uneven firing interval of 270° - 180°- 90°- 180°. " Back for 2010, the YZF-R1 is the only production motorcycle with a crossplane crankshaft. The YZF-R1 was chosen for its MotoGP-inspired engine and chassis technology, and for its luxurious fit and finish. " The YZF-R1 garnered the prestigious award as the 2009 Motorcycle of the Year from Motorcyclist Magazine.

Engine
" This fuel-injected engine takes full advantage of YCC-T (Yamaha The silencer is a single expansion type, and the sound coming through from the unique crossplane crankshaft- equipped engine is unlike any other inline-four cylinder production supersport. " The exhaust system is meticulously designed to enhance engine output while, thanks to its three-way catalyst technology, also reducing exhaust emissions. " Slipper-type back torque-limiting clutch greatly facilitates braking/downshifting from high speed. This contributes to outstanding power delivery characteristics in the high-speed range, while the design also helps to minimize intake noise. " A forced-air intake system is adopted to increase intake efficiency by using the natural airflow during riding to pressurize the air in the air box. Titanium intake valves are lightweight. " This engine features forged aluminum pistons to take maximum advantage of the power characteristics. " To maximize rider comfort as well as power output, the engine adopts a coupling-type balancer that rotates in the opposite direction as the crankshaft. Instead, combustion torque continues to build, giving the rider more linear throttle response with awesome power and traction out of the corners. This overcomes the inherent fluctuations in inertial torque during each engine revolution, and the accompanying peaky torque characteristics. Unlike typical inline-four engine design, where the two outer and two inner pistons move together in pairs with 180° intervals, the crossplane crankshaft has each connecting rod 90° with a unique firing order of 270° - 180° - 90° - 180°. " Crossplane crankshaft technology proven in victory after victory on MotoGP machines provides a high-tech uneven firing interval.

Chassis/Suspension
The elongated shape of the tank allows it to fit neatly within the frame in a way that promotes concentration of mass. " The press-formed fuel tank has a shape developed using 3-D simulation analysis technology. R1 has adjustable footrests, with a 15mm height and 3mm front-to-rear adjustment. Welcome to the club. " Factory racers get machines tailored to their preferences. To achieve maximum performance, a bottom linkage is used to work with the rest of the chassis refinements for brilliant, crisp handling characteristics. This unit also adopts a pillow-ball-type joint for exceptional shock absorption, road hold feeling, and damper response. " The SOQI rear shock features both high and low speed compression damping plus an easy-to-use screw hydraulic adjustment for preload. Since both forks always move together, compression damping duties can be confined to the left fork, while rebound damping is precisely handled by the right fork, reducing oil cavitation. " SOQI front forks take a page from the championship-winning design of our MotoGP weapon, the M1. It is a sophisticated combination of Controlled-Fill die-cast, stamping, and gravity casting… the exact technology needed for each portion of this advanced frame. " The frame has a combination of uncompromising rigidity where needed along with carefully achieved flex for the precise rigidity balance this bike needs to give the rider the full benefit of its handling and engine characteristics.

A special piston profile and a urethane insulation sheet on the inside of the magnesium chain In lieu of a more-restrictive exhaust system, the ZX-14 meets noise standards by producing minimal internal mechanical noise. These devices, combined with a wide dispersal of atomized fuel from the fine-atomizing fuel injectors and optimized flow characteristics through the intakes, allow the ZX-14’s 1352cc engine to offer strong performance, yet still meet the toughest motorcycle emissions regulations. Secondary air ports in the cylinder head and its cover flow clean air into the exhaust system and boost the efficiency of the three honeycomb catalyzers employed in the exhaust system. Intake and exhaust systems permit it to comply with strict emissions and noise regulations, even as its massive low-end torque, mid-range thrust and legendary Ninja peak power place it at the top of the sportbike food chain. Despite ever-tightening noise and emissions regulations; the ZX-14 has continued to set the pace of sportbike excellence ever since its domineering debut. The ZX-14’s systems are designed to allow riders to exploit the full potential of man and machine, while effortlessly dispatching all challengers. Its monocoque chassis and wind-tunnel developed body represent the cutting edge of sportbike design. It may not cost a million dollars or have a V-12 engine, but the ZX-14’s 1352cc fuel-injected inline-four is the closest thing on two wheels. The mission of Kawasaki’s flagship Ninja ZX-14 is not unlike that of an exotic supercar — to project the awesome power and technology of its parent company in rapid fashion, every time the throttle is twisted.
