Land Rover first introduced the Land Rover LRX as a concept vehicle in 2008 at the Detroit Auto Show (almost 2 years ago). At the time of the concept’s debut it was unsure whether Land Rover would actually make the Land Rover LRX part of it’s range of production models. Land Rover have recently confirmed that this vehicle will be going into production as a 2011 model.

Land Rover "Defender" Raja Segala Medan Yang Tak Kenal Perubahan

Icon marque asal Inggris, Land Rover, profil yang telah akrab di benak masyarakat umum sejak itu, yaitu dimulai pada tahun 1948. Selama sekitar 37 tahun, Land Rover mengalami perubahan minimal styling dari Seri I hingga Seri III, dan tidak pernah benar-benar berakhir dengan Seri III terakhir, bergulir ke pabrik Solihull pada tahun 1985.

Sejarah Awal

Ini benar-benar hanya perubahan nama saja, untuk membedakan jajaran model terbaru yang menjadi semakin perlu dilakukan di tahun 80-an. Ketika Land Rover berakhir pada garis Seri III 4WD off road SUV tahun 1983, hal itu hanya untuk pengenalan model Land Rover 90 3-pintu dan 110 model 5-pintu station wagon berdasarkan panjang jarak roda.

Seri III berlanjut terus selama 2 tahun dan melihat spesimen terakhir sempat terhenti dari produksi pabrik Solihull pada tahun 1985. Pada saat peluncuran Land Rover Defender, model Land Rover lainnya di produksi, sedikit kelas diatasnya, Range Rover, yang diluncurkan pada tahun 1970.

Masih dengan pemilik yang sama, British Leyland Corporation, Sembilan puluh dan satu-sepuluh segera diikuti dengan panjang 127 dan 130 pada tahun yang sama. Mereka dibangun diatas jalur produksi terpisah. Ini berlangsung selama lima tahun, pada tahun 1990 untuk seri akhirnya, dengan asumsi nama Defender.

Defender 90-an Hingga Kini

Pada tahun 1986, British Leyland menjadi Rover Group Plc, dan diprivatisasi pada tahun 1988, sebelum dapat dijual kepada British Aerospace. Ini berada di bawah pengelolaan British Aerospace, ketika perubahan styling terbesar Land Rover terjadi pada tahun 1990 akhir.

Garis Land Rover berubah menjadi Land Rover Defender, yang menampilkan sama 3 pintu dan 5 pintu station wagon, dengan varian diantaranya seperti 4-pintu-pick-up dan 2-pintu soft tops.

Setahun sebelumnya, Land Rover Discovery diperkenalkan dengan mesin turbo diesel terbarunya dan power yang lebih, tetapi menggunakan chassis yang sama pada produksi yang sama pula, seperti dengan 90 dan 110.

Hal ini diposisikan untuk bersaing secara langsung dengan muncul mid-ranged SUV di jalanan perkotaan, sedangkan garis spartan Defender keluar lebih setahun kemudian, dan diposisikan lebih untuk 4X4 yang lebih dimanfaatkan untuk semua medan dan semua pasar.

Pada tahun 1994, Grup Rover hilang kepemilikannya dari Inggris, ketika British Aerospace menjual divisi ke BMW, Jerman. Pada waktu yang sama, Defender diluncurkan di AS dengan modifikasi berat guna mematuhi peraturan jalan yang ketat dari Dephub AS demi keselamatan kecelakaan dan pencahayaan.

Melalui dekade terakhir abad ke-20, Defender telah berusaha untuk bersaing dengan berbagai pilihan kelas atas dengan menawarkan SUV yang terangkat kendaraan dasar utilitas untuk spesifikasi di atas-spartan.

Untuk memperingati ke-50 tahun Defender, pada tahun 1998 perusahaan mengeluarkan Defender dengan transmisi otomatis dan AC, dan sama seperti yang digunakan Range Rover, mesin V8 4 liter.

Selanjutnya, Ford Motors mengambil alih kendali dari BMW pada tahun 2000, yang akan mengambil 7 tahun lagi untuk Defender guna melihat perubahan besar yang terjadi pada Td5-nya turbo diesel 2,5 liter 5-silinder, agar bisa dikawinkan dengan transmisi Duratorq Ford.

Mesin Td5 2007, akan menjadi mesin Land Rover terakhir yang akan dibuat di pabrik Solihullnya. Setahun kemudian, kepemilikan diteruskan ke Tata Motors India Grup, yang diharapkan dapat merombak desain berusia 25 tahun pada tahun 2012 di bawah Proyek Icon. (",)v

Spy photographer recently spotted an updated version of the company’s Range Rover Sport while out testing and now comes word that Land Rover will expand its upcoming LRX range.

Shown in concept form as a three-door model, Autocar.co.uk is reporting that both three and five-door versions of the LRX will make production.

Part of the allure of the LRX concept was its sleek shape, and Land Rover designers are said to be working hard to make sure the five-door version doesn’t lose anything in translation.
