BMW Concept X6
After being spied several times recently, BMW took the wraps off its Concept X6 at Frankfurt, which the automaker is calling a "Sports Activity Coupe." While BMW has not revealed any technical details about the X5-based X6, it is more than likely that it will receive the same 3.0-liter inline-six and 4.8-liter V-8 powertrains as the X5. Debuting on the X6 will be BMW's Dynamic Performance Control, an advanced chassis control system that combines traction and stability control with BMW's xDrive all-wheel drive system to help optimize handling by routing power to the wheels that need it the most.Alongside the Concept X6, BMW will be unveiling its first hybrid vehicle that uses the new two-mode hybrid system that was developed by BMW, GM, and DaimlerChrysler. Called the Concept X6 ActiveHybrid, it is distinguished from its conventionally-powered brethren by restyled front and rear fascias. Like other cars with the technology, the X6 Active Hybrid uses two electric motors coupled to a traditional gasoline engine with a transmission based on an electrical continuously variable transmission. Expect to see production versions of the model sometime next year.
